Data Protection

Barnabus (Manchester) is a data controller under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018. Please note that information you provide on this application form will be used by us for the purposes of processing your application. This means that the basis for us processing your personal data is ‘legitimate interest’. We confirm that if your application to volunteer is unsuccessful, we will retain your personal data for a period of 4 months following this decision in order to allow us to deal with any outstanding issues or administration. Following this time, all personal data held about you in relation to this application will be erased. In the event that your application is successful, further information regarding how we use your personal data will be provided in the ‘Volunteer Agreement’.

Further information and availability

All of our volunteers are required to complete an enhanced DBS check in respect of vulnerable adults, unless you have a current subscription to the DBS update service which we can check. DBS checks cost the charity £11.40 and we ask all volunteers to pay £10 towards this cost as part of joining the team. If this cost is a barrier to you joining us (because you are currently a student, unemployed or on a low income) then do let us know and we can look to cover the cost for you.

Please be honest - previous convictions are not a bar to volunteering at Barnabus - we will look at your circumstances to see whether it is suitable for you to volunteer with us. However, withholding this information will result in us rejecting your application or terminating your volunteering. All information provided will be kept strictly confidential and will only be disclosed with your knowledge if we are required to do so.

When you come to interview we may also ask you to provide details of a referee who can provide a reference for you. We will let you know what type of reference we need when we meet with you.

Please be aware that an enhanced DBS check will reveal some convictions even once they are spent. If you like further information about this, please refer to guidance at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-filtering-guidance/dbs-filtering-guide.

If you answer yes to this question, we will contact you to explain our policy regarding prior convictions.

Availability

Please complete the table below to confirm which sessions you would be able to attend. Please note that even though a session is marked as running, it is possible that there will not be any volunteer slots available on that particular session, so please tick as many as you can. We usually ask volunteers to commit to one regular session per week. In the event that you can not commit to a regular session, we may have capacity to add you as a ‘bank volunteer’, who we ask to help cover at short notice when other volunteers cannot attend.
