Just as the September heat wave passed and was replaced by storms a team of 11 brave hikers from Business Data Partners set off before sunrise to start the National 3 Peaks Challenge. Raising funds for Barnabus, Edinburgh Food Project and Age UK.

They had just 24 hours to climb the tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. Heading North to South they started climbing up and down Ben Nevis before the sun was up, with a support team waiting at the bottom of the hills to do the driving and logistics they were able to get to the summits of Scafell Pike and then Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) within the 24 hour time limit, an awesome achievement!

Here's what some of the team had to say after their 3 Peaks Challenge.

“Overall it was an incredibly challenging and rewarding experience, and in my opinion, as much a mental challenge as physical. After having hiked up and down the tallest peak for 4 and a half hours, to finish with the knowledge that we had to do that another two times was incredibly daunting and wouldn’t have been possible without the team powering through together! On the topic of teamwork, I think this was the most important theme throughout the weekend – it wouldn’t have been possible to get all three peaks done within the time limit without the encouragement and support of every team member. This is especially true for the support team at the bases who selflessly and tirelessly worked throughout the night to ensure the hikers could focus on completing each peak – the walking was just one half of an immense challenge and it could not have been done without the support team!”

“The 3 Peaks is something that I’ve wanted to do for about 15 years. The weekend was a dream come true for me.

I don’t even know where to begin in thanking the people involved.
The drivers took charge of all logistics so that the hikers could concentrate on just walking. They had everything nailed and managed to stay cheery with barely any sleep.
Big shout out for Waqaar who came up with a master stroke of walking up Snowdon behind the group who were behind target with essential kit. This allowed us to selflessly press on in quick time without worrying about other group members. I personally wouldn’t have hit the target had it not been for Waqaar.

And finally Joe, he planned every detail to perfection. He took control of every situation and made decisions during the event to ensure people’s enjoyment and safety were taken care of. He selflessly put his own success of completion in the time limit to look after those who were struggling.
It was a huge responsibility taking 11 people into the mountains with very differing experience levels and he did this exceptionally well.

Thank you for making my weekend amazing.”
