"I wasn't ready then, but I'm ready now" - Leanne's Journey Recovery is rarely a straight path, especially when homelessness and addiction are part of the story. Leanne's journey shows just how important it is to have support available when someone is finally ready to accept it. Barnabus has known Leanne for several years. During that time, she struggled with addiction, making it difficult for her to engage consistently with the support on offer. There were times when she would visit Barnabus, followed by periods when we wouldn’t see her for a while. But over the last few weeks, things have changed for Leanne. For nearly a month, Leanne has been regularly engaging with Barnabus and accessing the support available to help her move forward. Working alongside Manchester City Council, our Beacon team helped secure emergency hotel accommodation before she was offered a place in supported housing, where she is now settling in well and engaging positively with staff. Alongside finding a safe place to stay, Leanne has also started the challenging process of detoxing from drugs. Despite receiving support where she lives, Leanne continues to visit Barnabus. Reflecting on her journey, she explained that when she first came to us, she wasn't in a place where she could accept help. Now, she feels ready and is grateful that Barnabus is still here to support her through recovery and the challenges of homelessness. Leanne's story is a reminder that change takes time. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is keep the door open until someone is ready to walk through it. Help make more stories like Leanne’s possible Donate Now Manage Cookie Preferences
