  • Pray with us
  1. Support us

Pray with us

We believe in the transforming power of prayer to restore and bring; healing, salvation, freedom and hope to our friends experiencing homelessness. We see people of many different faiths at different stages of their spiritual journey. Many have complex needs stemming from; addictions, poor mental health, abuse, trauma and grief including ex service veterans and those without family.

We pray for our friends every morning and before each session. We also hold a weekly time of prayer and worship at our Support Centre with an open invite for anyone who wishes to attend. Our quiet space is available for personal prayer and we've just started an Alpha course.

Church Support:

We’re also always grateful for volunteers, support with our weekly prayer and worship, practical donations or fundraising and financial gifts in support of our work in the City. Perhaps we could visit your group or church we would love to tell you more so that together we can help bring lasting change to those we support, please get in touch with Neil at [email protected] to find out more or check out our Church Partnership Page which encompasses all of our faith-based ministries at Barnabus and how you can get involved.

This Month’s Prayer Points:

Pray for J & D two women who are in extremely vulnerable situations - pray for a way forward and for the right support package for them.

Pray for H who made a commitment to Jesus on outreach this last week, pray that she will connect with a local church, pray for her safety and for her to begin to walk in her new identity.

Pray for our guests who continue to access our Light session on Thursdays, as they continue to explore faith in the midst of facing the reality of homelessness. Pray for hope.

Pray that any resistance is broken through in both the hearts of those we work with and in the systems we work in

Pray for the outreach into the temporary accommodation and on the streets that hearts would respond to the gospel.

Pray for the restoration and transformation of those we work with

Pray that we start to see fruit in the lives of people who have made decisions to follow Christ.

Pray for the prayer room in the beacon to be used more

Pray for the Lord to send out more workers as we need more volunteers in our outreach our light sessions, rough sleeper support sessions and our resettlement project

Thanks so much for all your support

Luke 4:18-19

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

Matthew 25:35-40

‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Then they asked ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

The Lord will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

    Starting From Scratch

Stanley has been accessing Barnabus’ services at our Beacon support centre since September 2024. Prior to this, he had experienced six years of rough sleeping in Manchester, with only intermittent periods of sofa surfing between friends and family. His homelessness began following a relationship breakdown and over time he developed a significant dependency on alcohol, which further impacted his physical health and stability.

A journey from uncertainty to stability

We first met Lily and Peter several years ago after they were granted refugee status. While this was a major step forward, it also brought sudden instability. As they were no longer eligible to remain in Home Office accommodation, they quickly found themselves facing homelessness, unsure where they would sleep from one night to the next.

The word has gotten out that I am leaving, some ask with sadness, then others just want to wish me well. I realize more deeply that I’ll miss this corner of Manchester where I have been watching people from all walks of life, faiths, and nations come together to share a table and look out for one another. “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

PARTNERING WITH LOCAL CHURCHES TO HELP PEOPLE LEAVE HOMELESSNESS BEHIND FOR GOOD

Here at Barnabus, everything we do is led by our faith – whether that’s providing a warm meal to someone in need or referring services for long-term support. We want to share God’s love with anyone experiencing difficulties. That’s why we launched our church partnership programme, the Dwell Project. It brings the gospel to those without a home, in temporary accommodation, or at risk of homelessness. We offer spiritual support and guidance to help the healing process.

  • Homelessness in Manchester

If you’ve walked the streets of Manchester, you’ve almost certainly passed by a rough sleeper. In fact, you’ve probably noticed that there are more people living and sleeping out on the streets. In 2010, the official rough sleeper figure was 7. In 2018, it was 94. Unfortunately, we know that in reality, the number is much higher. Please read on to find out more about homelessness in our city.

  • How we're helping

The stress and anxiety people can suffer when they are homeless means they often feel afraid to reach out and taking that small step towards getting help can seem like a mammoth task. That’s why our team is there to help from the start, giving tailored support and advice every single step of the way.

What would make someone choose to sleep on the floor next to their bed rather than in it? Some of the people we support struggle so deeply with trauma that even when they have a home they find themselves struggling or completely unable to sleep in the bed, instead they choose to sleep on the floor, on their sofas or sometimes even spending nights back on the streets.
