PAYROLL GIVING

HELP US REBUILD

LIVES TODAY

You can support our work to rebuild lives by making monthly donations directly from your salary – before tax deductions. It’s quick, simple, and allows us to continue our life-changing work.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The tax relief you get will depend on the rate you pay. For instance, if you donate £10 and…

  • You’re a basic-rate taxpayer, you’ll pay £8

  • You’re a higher-rate taxpayer, you’ll pay £6

  • You’re an additional-rate taxpayer, you’ll pay £5.50

You’ll receive different tax relief if you live in Scotland.

FOR EMPLOYEES

If you’d like to make regular donations, ask your employer if they run a payroll giving scheme. If they don’t, please see below.

This is an example of how a gift works through payroll giving:

Say you ask your employer to set up a payment of £10 per month to come to us directly from your wage. Barnabus will receive £10 but it will only cost you £8 per month or even just £6 per month if you pay higher rate tax!

Many employers also offer a matched giving scheme, so the amount you donate could be worth double, or even triple what you give.

Ask your employees if they run a payroll giving scheme or give as you earn scheme and if they don't please encourage them to take a look at the information and link on our page.

FOR EMPLOYERS

Setting up a payroll giving scheme is a great way to encourage your employees to support the wider community.

It’s free and easy to set up, and donations are automatically deducted from your payroll each month.

Companies offering the scheme are also eligible to receive a Quality Mark for creating a giving culture at their workplace.

SUPPORT OUR WORK

If you can’t connect with a payroll giving scheme, please consider a one off donation or a monthly gift of any amount to support our work.

Make a difference in just a few minutes. Get in touch with our fundraising team to learn more:

    Starting From Scratch

Stanley has been accessing Barnabus’ services at our Beacon support centre since September 2024. Prior to this, he had experienced six years of rough sleeping in Manchester, with only intermittent periods of sofa surfing between friends and family. His homelessness began following a relationship breakdown and over time he developed a significant dependency on alcohol, which further impacted his physical health and stability.

A journey from uncertainty to stability

We first met Lily and Peter several years ago after they were granted refugee status. While this was a major step forward, it also brought sudden instability. As they were no longer eligible to remain in Home Office accommodation, they quickly found themselves facing homelessness, unsure where they would sleep from one night to the next.

  • Homelessness in Manchester

If you’ve walked the streets of Manchester, you’ve almost certainly passed by a rough sleeper. In fact, you’ve probably noticed that there are more people living and sleeping out on the streets. In 2010, the official rough sleeper figure was 7. In 2018, it was 94. Unfortunately, we know that in reality, the number is much higher. Please read on to find out more about homelessness in our city.

  • How we're helping

The stress and anxiety people can suffer when they are homeless means they often feel afraid to reach out and taking that small step towards getting help can seem like a mammoth task. That’s why our team is there to help from the start, giving tailored support and advice every single step of the way.

What would make someone choose to sleep on the floor next to their bed rather than in it?

What would make someone choose to sleep on the floor next to their bed rather than in it? Some of the people we support struggle so deeply with trauma that even when they have a home they find themselves struggling or completely unable to sleep in the bed, instead they choose to sleep on the floor, on their sofas or sometimes even spending nights back on the streets.
