Back in August this year, Dave* came to us looking for support. Despite working full-time, he had been sleeping in the train station at Manchester Airport, with nowhere to call home. After an initial support meeting at our support centre we knew he wouldn’t be  eligible for the majority of temporary accommodation due to his employment status, sadly the majority of these services are only for people who are homeless and out of work. Determined to help, our housing team reached out to local private landlords in hopes of finding a suitable ,and vitally, affordable room - but at the time, none were available.

Months passed with Dave stuck in limbo whilst we waited for one of the few rooms in Manchester that he was eligible for. Then a moment of unexpected luck changed everything. One of our housing team members was attending a flat viewing with another of our friends when the landlord mentioned she suddenly had an additional room that needed filling as soon as possible.

We contacted Dave straight away. Within hours, we had viewed the property together. The very next day, Dave signed the tenancy and shortly after, he moved in.

After sleeping on the streets for months, Dave had almost nothing, all his possessions had to fit in his rucksack. To help him settle comfortably, we provided a care package including bedding, towels, utensils, and toiletries, everything he needed to start this new chapter with dignity and ease.

Now, just in time for Christmas, and before the coldest Winter months, Dave is fully moved into his own apartment, a home of his own. After months of working full-time while sleeping in a train station, he finally has a safe, warm place to call home.

Dave has expressed how grateful he is for the support he’s received from Barnabus throughout his journey off the streets, but for us, seeing him step into a brighter, more secure future is exactly why we do what we do.

A fresh start for Dave and a reminder that all of your support goes towards someone’s journey out of homelessness, off the streets and into a home for good.

If you can please support Barnabus so that more people like Dave can move off the streets and find new hope and new homes.
