The situation

Most people experiencing homelessness suffer from poor mental health, isolation, past traumas and often addictions. These lead to low self-esteem, depression, chaotic behaviour, complex needs and when combined with the stresses and challenges they face through homelessness it can make it very hard for individuals to engage with the support and healthcare services they need to recover from homelessness.

This slows or stops their recovery and can lead to people falling back into crisis and homelessness, perpetuating the cycle of homelessness.

The solution

Creativity, expression, friendship and self-discovery have been shown to improve people’s mental health. We aim to improve people’s mental health, grow their self-esteem and social networks through meaningful wellbeing activities and sessions to help improve their mental health. Through arts, day trips, cooking classes, support meetings and more we aim to improve the mental health of the people we support to help them better engage with support and help them on their journey off the streets and recovery from homelessness.

How will we do it?

We are seeking to raise £40,000 to fund 2 years of Music Therapy sessions, Day trips, Group Therapy, Arts and Crafts and our Allotment Project to provide social, wellbeing, enrichment. These wellbeing activities will improve their mental health, help with recovery, provide their days with enrichment and opportunities to make friends and socialise. These will help our friends break the cycle of homelessness for good and build healthy stable lives off the streets.

We are taking part in this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest Online Match Funding Campaign.

We want to raise a total of £40,000 (including match funding) to pay for 2 years of meaningful wellbeing activities.

We need your help to gain a total of £10,000 in pledges by 30th August 2024

Once we have raised £10,000 in pledges, the Big Give will then include our project in their online Big Give Match Funding Christmas Challenge, December 2024.

We will then raise £20,000 through general giving and every gift received will be match funded and doubled to reach our £40,000 goal, with £10,000 from pledges and £10,000 from Big Give partners.

Please make a pledge so that we can successfully raise funds to break the cycle of homelessness together.

Please make your Pledge by 5pm Friday 30th August 2024.

N.B. Payments for these pledges will not be required by the Big Give until January 2025.

We are passionate about ending homelessness in our city. We hope you will choose to support our work so that together we can bring transforming and long lasting change.
