The 10th annual Santa Dash for Barnabus held by Heaton Parkrun runners had it’s highest ever attendance of 733 runners this year, supported by 58 Volunteers it was such a fantastic morning. But the biggest record broken this weekend is the record amount raised for those experiencing homelessness in Manchester. Together the runners raised a phenomenal £1926 towards our work in Manchester.

The £1926 they raised enables 385 rough sleepers to access our drop in centre where they can get an all-important breakfast, an opportunity for a shower, clean clothes, toiletries, a chance to see our nurse and a warm safe space after a cold or wet night on the street. It’s also a chance to connect with our caring team and find hope, encouragement and a sense of belonging. Our drop in centre is a vital first point of contact for those who are rough sleeping or experiencing homelessness allowing us to build trust and a relationship with our friends so that our support and resettlement team can support them back into accommodation.

We could not be more thankful for Heaton Parkrun’s continuing commitment to help us support rough sleepers to get the vital support they need to get off the streets. The first Santa Dash in 2010 had just 125 runners, so it's great to see how the event has grown. Over the past 10 years the Parkrun Santa Dash has raised a whopping £10,000
