Launched on Thursday 17th October 2019, ‘In-The-Box’ is a Christmas campaign created by Manchester United and England International footballer Marcus Rashford to support some of Manchester’s biggest frontline services for those experiencing homelessness – Barnabus, Centrepoint, and Lifeshare.

“Last Christmas I prepared and delivered some gifting boxes around Manchester for those in need, with the help of my family. It was one of the most gratifying moments of the year so when planning activity this time around I was adamant that we would reach more people in a more effective way. I’m excited to have Selfridges Manchester Exchange partner with me on the project for Christmas 2019 to help achieve this.

I'm extremely proud of where I'm from, I love this city and appreciate all of the support the city has given me over the years so this is my opportunity to help out those that might not otherwise have the best Christmas. I'm hoping lots of people will want to get involved too so we can make a real impact together”.

Members of the public are encouraged to fill a shoebox of essential items to be distributed to adults in greater need this holiday period. These boxes of presents will be handed out in drop in centres throughout Manchester. We have built the list of items in these boxes in collaboration with the other drop in centres involved in the campaign and think that it is a great way to not only give our friends an uplifting Christmas gift but also to give them items to help them through the cold winters months while also encouraging people to come into the drop ins for practical support, healthcare ,links to accommodation and employment.

Partnering with Selfridges Manchester Exchange (1, Exchange Square Central, Corporation St, Manchester, M3 1BD) to bolster the campaign, the box drop will be located on the first floor within menswear and will be manned from 12:00-18:00 Monday-Sunday.

“Here at Barnabus we are delighted to have the support of Marcus and we are looking forward to welcoming him into our drop in centre; as we know the opportunity for our friends who are experiencing homelessness to meet him will help us to build trust and help them to engage with our support team to ultimately get help to get off the streets. To meet someone with Marcus profile  will also help to lift the spirits of those we serve at what can be a difficult time of the year.” Neil Cornthwaite, Head of Operations at Barnabus.

Deadline for drops is December 20th 2019 at 18:00.
